The Construction (Design and Management)
Regulations 2007

QS Associates have been CDM Co-ordinators (CDMC) since the start of The Construction Design and Management Regulations (CDM) started in 1994 under the old role of Planning Supervisor.

When the regulations changed in March 2007 we as an organisation embraced the new way in which the objectives of the Client and CDMC had been structured under CDM 2007.

As CDMC we offer a superb range of skills and support to ensure the Client maintains compliance and achieves Safety In Design via our co-ordination techniques developed over the last 15 years.

Safety In Design is the support package and co-ordination role required to ensure designers  manage the risks of their design and coordinate with other designers and more importantly the contractor.

Where contractors are expected to complete Design & Build Packages as CDM Co-ordinators we support the contractor in coordinating their design with that of other trades and services.

Our role as CDM Co-ordinators is supported by our role to assist the team in the selection of competent contractors who have the skills and abilities to be able to manage the CDM process.

Our role as CDM Co-ordinators takes into account the following disciplines required of a CDM Co-ordinator:

  • Advise and assist Clients to their duties under the CDM Regulations. Give advice on the appointment of competent designers and contractors.
  • Notify the HSE regarding the project (30 working days duration or 500 person construction days work).
  • Co-ordinate health and safety aspects of design work and co-operate with others involved with the project.
  • Take steps to ensure effective communication, information and co-operation between the client, designers, principal contractor and contractors.
  • Identify, collect and forward pre-construction information.
  • Prepare, update and deliver the Health and Safety File to Client.
