Fire safety law and guidance documents for business

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (FSO) came into effect in October 2006 and replaced over 70 pieces of fire safety law.

The FSO applies to all non-domestic premises in England and Wales, including the common parts of blocks of flats and houses in multiple occupation. The law applies if your organisation is:

  • responsible for business premises
  • an employer or self-employed with business premises
  • responsible for a part of a dwelling where that part is solely used for business purposes
  • a charity or voluntary organisation
  • a contractor with a degree of control over any premises
  • providing accommodation for paying guests

Under the FSO, a responsible person must carry out a fire safety risk assessment and implement and maintain a fire management plan. QS Associates offer a comprehensive Fire Risk Assessment service with high level and detailed reports, over the Web, by disc or hardcopy.

Our Fire Risk Assessment systems detail the risk on those who occupy areas
rather than the risk on the premises. This approach:

  • emphasises preventing fires and reducing risk
  • details your responsibility to ensure the safety of everyone who
uses your premises and in the immediate vicinity.
  • prioritises the risks and details the actions required to minimise risk
and allow cost schedules to be sought for any remedial works.

Our systematic approach will therefore identify:

  • Fire Hazards
  • People at Risk

Which will allow:

  • The Measures to Evaluate and Act
  • Requirements to Record, Plan & Train
  • Requirements to Review
